The LAFC are the champions of the 2022 MLS Cup! What an exciting ending that saw over 120 minutes of back-and-forth between these two great teams. For the first time in franchise history, LAFC takes home the MLS Cup over the Philadelphia Union. In a battle between the league’s top two teams, LAFC came out on top. This was the fifth match between the two teams this season, with LAFC going 1-0-3 in the previous four matchups. The match was played in Los Angeles since LAFC won the supporters’ shield.
LAFC captured the crown in front of a raucous home crowd. It was not an easy route to the title as LAFC had to knock off rivals LA Galaxy and Austin FC to advance to the championship. But, as they have done all season, LAFC counted on its stars to help guide them against the Unios. Cristian Arango (18 goals this season) and Carlos Vela (12 goals this season), and Jose Cifuentes (7 assists this season) played vital roles.
