Los Angeles steadily proved itself as one of the best clubs in baseball throughout a shortened 2020 season, but the Dodgers were tested mightily in the championship round. The Braves jumped out to a 3-1 series lead and put the Dodgers on the brink of elimination, but L.A. didn’t waver and found a way to claw back in the series.
They had to come back in Game 7 as well, after the Braves jumped ahead early off a solo shot by Dansby Swanson. But the Dodgers chipped away with long at-bats and wore down the Braves’ pitching. Kike Hernandez cranked the eighth pitch of his at-bat deep to left-centerfield to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning, and Cody Bellinger matched him with his own solo home run in the seventh to take a 4-3 lead.
The Dodgers advance to face the AL champion Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, set to take place at GlobeLife Field in Arlington, Texas – the same location that housed this epic seven-game NLCS.
Despite the Dodgers’ recent run of success in the National League, success at the World Series has eluded them with the franchise last breaking through in 1988. After a few close calls in recent years, L.A.’s dangerous lineup will be hungry to hoist the trophy this time around.
