The Georgia Bulldogs have done it, and finally broke through for their first college football national championship since 1980 with a dramatic 33-18 victory over SEC rivals Alabama in the 2022 CFP National Championship Game!

Led by a dominating defensive performance and timely second-half big plays, Georgia avenged their only defeat of the season – a SEC championship game defeat to the Crimson Tide. Down briefly in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs fought their way back into the lead before capping things with a late interception for a touchdown.

UGA may have given up 41 points to Alabama in that SEC championship game, but they held the Tide below 20 in the game that decided everything. Heisman Trophy winning Alabama QB Bryce Young was under duress all night from a swarming Georgia pass rush.

Alabama still leads the way with the most College Football Playoff appearances, but it was no match for a Georgia team that has looked destined for glory virtually all season long. Head coach Kirby Smart has built an incredible program in Athens, Georgia, and it is finally crowned with a national title.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett was a difference maker for the ‘Dawgs, going 17-for-26 for 224 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs pulled ahead for good. It was Kelee Ringo’s interception for a touchdown when Alabama was driving, down eight, that sealed things.
