No fight – for fans of boxing or UFC – holds more appeal today than a ticket featuring Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather. Whether it’s been willed into existence by supporters looking to see these powerful fighters go head-to-head, or by the fighters themselves due to the potential economic windfall, fans want this fight to happen in 2017.
Before they’ve even set foot in the same ring, these two titans are trading jabs on Twitter.

What will each fighter – a boxer with a perfect record against the fury incarnate of MMA’s face – bring to the contest? We look at the tale of the tape and give you the chance to vote on who you think will win. Keep reading.
Unrolling the Tape
A Mayweather-McGregor bout would pit the “retired” 40-year-old boxer up against a 29-year-old and current UFC Lightweight Champion. It’s easy to see why the two are already beefing over social media.
Floyd Mayweather will bring a perfect record into the ring, having gone 49-0 in his professional boxing career. (He went 84-6 as an amateur fighter.) He’s dominated across five different weight classes – super featherweight, lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight – throughout his career.
Mayweather is efficient with his punches and waits to connect with a perfect punch, rather than pummel an opponent into submission. During the highly anticipated Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in 2015, he landed almost 35 percent of his punches. His opponent? Less than 20 percent, which is why Mayweather is know as “Pretty Boy” – most of his competition can’t even touch him.
While the money may not be on McGregor – he’s currently the underdog in several sports books – it would be unwise to write off the Notorious Irishman. He’s got a story anyone can get behind in a “nobody believed in me” way. He left school, took up a trade, and later abandoned plumbing to pursue fighting full time. It worked out very, very well for McGregor … less so for those who entered the octagon with him.
His work ethic and tenacity has carried him far from Crumlin, Ireland. McGregor is a global phenom in the world of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighting, and the first UFC fighter to hold two titles at the same time. He’ll bring a 21-3-0 record into battle, and he’s more than capable of landing a punch on “Pretty Boy.”
It’s easy to read what the experts say about the match, but what do you think? Does Mayweather stay perfect versus McGregor? Could the Irishman find the holes in “Money” Mayweather’s defense? Vote and share your opinion on who would win this matchup!
